Billionaire Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt‘s daughter Ava marked a major life milestone after moving into her first-ever college dorm room—but not before giving the space an heiress-worthy makeover.
The 18-year-old is embarking on her freshman year at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and spent the weekend moving into her new “home.”
She got a little help from her mother, Tavia, who marked the occasion by sharing a series of images on her Instagram account, offering a sneak peek inside her daughter’s incredibly lavish dorm. The space is decked out to the nines in pretty pink decor.
In the photos, Ava and her mother are seen posing in front of the freshman’s lofted bed, which—in classic dorm room style—sits alongside one wall, while her roommate’s is on the opposite side of the room.
Having clearly planned out their decor ahead of move-in day, Ava and her new roommate (who is also named Ava), opted for matching pink-and-white touches in their shared space.
A pink palace
Both roommates have pink neon signs behind their beds that spell out their names: Ava Elizabeth and Ava Jacquelyn.
The duo also have identical pink-and-white floral sheets on their beds, as well as small round ottomans in matching fabrics sitting alongside the ends of their mattresses.
To hide any clutter that might build up under the lofted beds, each girl has installed a white curtain that covers the space, while the dark brown footboards of the beds have been covered with white, quilted covers.
Between the two beds sits a large white cabinet with gold handles, which the two girls decorated with matching floral lamps, a pile of books, a scent diffuser, and a small vase filled with pink peonies to match the room’s overall color scheme.
At the foot of Ava’s bed sits a large mirrored, glass-top vanity table, which has plenty of drawer space to store her skincare, makeup and other essentials, and a $399 pink-and-gold desk chair from Pottery Barn.
On top of the dresser, the freshman has not one but two lit mirrors for maximum glam: one that appears to be built into the vanity table, as well as a pink $225 Riki Magnifying Mirror.
Completing the decor on the top of her vanity is a $199 Iridescent Globe Lamp from Pottery Barn, as well as a small vase of white roses, a gold desktop organizer, and a pot of Olly vitamins.
Maximizing her space
For maximum storage, the teenager also added a three-drawer white dresser with gold handles to match the other furniture pieces in her room, utilizing its top as a place to store her various beverages.
As well as an $18.99 Brita pitcher—one of the room’s few items without a pink hue—the college cheerleader also has a bright pink coffee maker and the highly sought-after $60 Stanley x LoveShackFancy Tumbler.
Last but not least, Ava went all out with art and decorative knickknacks to add some home comfort to the space, including several pieces of art above her vanity, an acrylic frame filled with polaroids of her family and friends, and a large reusable calendar perched on a shelf above her dresser.
Special touches
The room’s entryway has a large pink canvas featuring a drawing of a lady showing off her cowboy boots, with the word “howdy” written across it several times, in a nod to Ava’s Southern roots—and the Texas-based college.
Last but not least, the teenager added a few acrylic jars to house her pens and other essentials, as well as a pretty floral rug, and some white curtains over the window that occupies the space between her bed and her roommate’s.
Despite helping her daughter turn the space into a stunning home away from home, Tavia admitted that leaving Ava behind at college was a bittersweet experience.
“Today, I left a piece of my heart at SMU,” she wrote in the caption accompanying the photos. “Ava Hunt, you’ve always been a mix of sunshine and hurricane—fierce, fearless, and capable of incredible things. I’m overflowing with excitement for you, even as I tuck away my tears for later.”
The mother of three went on to speak out about how empty her home feels without Ava there, writing: “I’m wading through emotions as I pass by your now too-clean room, the house is too quiet without your laughter, and Chief and I are already missing the familiar scent of your Sol de Janeiro body spray.
“I know you’ll return often, and that this marks a new adventure and freedom for both of us… yet, I whisper earnest prayers for your safety, wisdom, and for a tribe of new sisters who love Jesus and love you. May God bless you and watch over you – He has never failed me, nor will He fail you. I’m excited for the lessons you will learn about God’s faithfulness in the coming months.
“Watching you shine your light and grow into the most beautiful version of yourself makes my heart beat a little happier. You’ve worked so hard to get here. Everything that you do from here on out is for you—for your success, happiness, and God’s glory. Stay safe. Get sleep. Have faith in yourself. And remember, Mom and Dad are ALWAYS here when you need us. I love you MORE.”
Overcoming adversity
While Ava initially appeared to be content soaking up every moment of summer in the wake of her June graduation from The Covenant School in Dallas, her warm-weather fun hit a horrifying road block in the first week of August, when she had to undergo emergency surgery after falling down a mountain while hiking.
In a post shared on her Instagram Stories, Tavia shared a few details about the procedure, writing: “This little thang fell down the mountain today on a hike and went to the ER for surgery on a deep wound.
“It’s been a long day. Praise God she’s in recovery and already smiling. Please pray for a quick and complete recovery.”
Thankfully, it seems Ava was able to overcome her injury in time for the start of the school year—and has already been busy cheering alongside her fellow SMU cheerleaders.
